Karen’s art explores the relationship between person, place, and culture.
Born to parents of Scottish, French and English ancestry, Karen began life on the east coast and was raised (mostly) on the west coast. Water has always been an important part of Karen’s life, but it wasn’t until she moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, that she began to sense the deep connection between water, the environment, and culture.
Discerning a call to deepen her art making and to make more space for art in her work and life, Karen returned to school to complete a Certificate in Art & Design through the University of Saskatchewan’s Continuing Education program (2017), followed several years later by a Diploma in Art Therapy from the WHEAT Institute in Winnipeg / Life as Medicine (2023).
During her time in Saskatchewan, Karen was honoured to be part of the Saskatchewan River Water Walk, a journey of walking in Ceremony for the healing of the water.
